Marie Librando has joined the NSF INCLUDES SEAS Islands Alliance Guam Hub as the new program associate. With a deep-rooted passion for education and a strong commitment to the island community, Librando brings a fresh perspective to the role.

A lifelong resident of Guam, Librando has always been drawn to the sciences, but when she started her undergraduate studies, she noticed a shift in her concentration.  She realized that along with science, she loved, people.

Her undergraduate degree in Business Administration provided her with a solid foundation in human resources and she was off and running.

Prior to joining the NSF INCLUDES SEAS program, Librando gained valuable experience working with Americorps at the University of Guam where she developed a keen understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Guam’s youth and the growing need for development and capacity building.

As she joined the UOG Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant team in April, Librando now has the opportunity to utilize her background in people management while complimenting it with her love of science.

As the program associate, Librando looks forward to working with the students in the capacity building programs of UOG CIS and Sea Grant. Her role is pivotal in ensuring the success of the program’s mission to increase the number of underrepresented minorities and underserved students pursuing careers in marine and environmental sciences.

Librando’s enthusiasm for STEM education is contagious. She believes that by providing students with hands-on experiences and mentorship, she can inspire a new generation of scientists and conservationists.  The student journey through the program fuels her.

“Watching the students personal and professional development from recruitment to the end of the program, you see so much growth, and I love to help foster that,” said Librando.
